The Eco City Sustainability themes

These key themes reflect Councils priorities and associated initiatives and projects.

Leadership. Through effective environmental strategic direction, Council will develop awareness and influence change on environmental and climate change issues throughout the City's residential and business communities.
Climate Response. Council recognises climate change as being the most complex problem of our generation and will implement a suite of policy and practical responses to address it.
Mitigation. Reduce the City of Holdfast Bay's corporate carbon emissions to the absolute minimum while maintaining the capacity to effectively and efficiently carry out the Council's functions. Through education programs, assist residents to do the same, achieving both an improved financial position and positive environmental and climate change outcomes.
Adaptation. Adapt the City's infrastructure, landscapes and services to ensure the sustainable continuity of Council's functions.
Off-sets. Develop carbon emission off set strategies as a part of Council's climate response, while supporting innovation and investment in emission reduction and sequestration projects.
Water Preservation. Enhance water quality, conservation and re-use, improve Council infrastructure, landscapes, operations, efficiency and activities to reduce water usage and encourage similar initiatives in the community.
Greening Our City. In partnership with the community and other agencies Council will protect, enhance and create areas containing significant levels of biodiversity.
Preserving and Enhancing our Coastal Assets. Through on-ground works, sustainable management and education Council will protect, enhance and develop Holdfast Bay's coastal ecosystems.
Towards Zero Waste. Council will continually improve its waste management operations and activities and encourage complementary initiatives in the residential and business communities. Also, in order to reduce landfill diversion it will pursue increases in recycling and re-use of waste.
